New Covenant Aramaic Peshitta Text w/ Hebrew Translation Reviews

Review:

I bought a copy for my Hebrew teacher. I liked the style so much, I didn't want to ship it to her. I wanted the copy for myself. But having an ''ayin hara''ah'' (evil eye, or greed- Hebrew/Shemitic idiom) is not a pleasing virtue. So I bought a second copy for myself.

The parallel style is clean and very easy to the eyes. The text is also in good print, only with a few vowel points faded and one line of the Aramaic off-centered. Most likely, this was an accidental misprint. (Things like this happen. Amen.) However, that's minor, and I corrected the Aramaic portion for my teacher's copy.

Transliterating from Aramaic to Hebrew has its downfalls. And vica-versa. But just having the full Peshitta (this edition has the Eastern Peshitta order as well as the "western five" of the Peshitt"o") in the square Hebrew consonantal text is a miracle in itself.

My only major complaint of the Hebrew translation is the Aramaic word "MaRYa' ". Should have it as "YaHVeH". Vowel pointing the sacred name isn't necessary. Especially in passages such as Luqa 2:11 (Marya' M'shicha - YaHVeH HaMashiach). But a Shemitic translation from a Shemitic text will share familiar mindsets, as opposed to Greek and Latin. A Hebrew translation from the Aramaic is also a miracle in itself. No translating from the Greek. Woo-hoo!
